Podiatry Reinstated to Medicaid
The Michigan legislature reinstated podiatric services on October 1, 2010. This was made possible by a 200 million dollar federal grant to balance the budget. It is only guaranteed for a one year period.
This is presently applicable only for straight medicaid recipients. Other medicaid plans will eventually fall in line with this policy. Optometry and dentistry are also included in the new bill.
Medicaid plans such as Great Lakes and Molina Helathcare have reinstated the plans for podiatry. We will be happy to see back all of our Medicaid patients that stopped using Midland Family Footcare due to the stoppage. New Medicaid patients will be seen with a referral from their primary physician. Medicaid patients without a referral will be seen only on an emergency basis.
Remember, this is a one year funding of the program. Rules will change October 1, 2011.
